POLY ACSR: PE-Insulated ACSR For Overhead Distribution Lines

Oct 23, 2026 Leave a message

POLY ACSR is the insulated version of Aluminum Conductor Steel Reinforced (ACSR), with a weather-resistant black polyethylene (PE) insulation layer extruded over the bare ACSR conductor, primarily used for overhead distribution lines. The conductor itself is concentrically stranded according to ASTM B232, with 1350-H19 aluminum wires and a steel core providing mechanical support, while the PE insulation offers protection against moisture, UV radiation, and acid, alkali, and salt corrosion. According to specification tables, POLY ACSR covers stranded sizes from AWG #6 to 266.8 MCM, with insulation thickness typically ranging from 0.76mm to 1.52mm, a long-term allowable conductor operating temperature of 75°C, and a rated voltage of 600V. The product complies with standards including ASTM B232, ANSI/ICEA S-70-547, and ICEA S-61-402.

The primary application of POLY ACSR is overhead distribution lines, typically installed on insulators and treated in the same manner as bare conductors for installation. Compared with bare ACSR, the insulation layer effectively reduces short-circuit risks from external contact with trees or buildings, while also reducing right-of-way requirements, making it suitable for space-constrained or environmentally sensitive areas. In Southeast Asian markets such as the Philippines, POLY ACSR is a common type of overhead insulated conductor, often used in conjunction with ABC (Aerial Bundled Cable) solutions. Products are supplied in coils or reels, with customizable lengths and specifications.
